Meet the First Features 2024 awardees 🏅

104 applications whittled down to 5. We're pleased to announce the 5 projects selected for early development funding through our First Features scheme.

The successful projects and their teams are;

After four successful years, Film City Futures has made the decision to conclude its delivery of Short Circuit. This decision will come into effect on June 30th 2024. However, we are pleased to announce that the First Features projects selected for funding in the latest round will continue to receive support beyond June 30th. This support will be led by our funders BFI NETWORK and Screen Scotland. Currently, BFI NETWORK and Screen Scotland are actively working on a continuation strategy and this will ensure ongoing support for the live individual projects and for the wider filmmaking community in Scotland.

🌟 Special mention to BLACKWOOL at Glasgow Short

🌟 Special mention to BLACKWOOL at Glasgow Short Film Festival 🌟

The GSFF24 Scottish Short Film Award, awarded by a jury consisting of Jason Anderson, international short film programmer at Toronto International Film Festival and programme director at Aspen Shortsfest; Niels Putman, artistic director of Kortfilm.be, co-founder/chief editor of Talking Shorts and freelance curator; and Glasgow-based screenwriter/director Raisah Ahmed, gave a special mention to Sharp Shorts supported BLACKWOOL directed by Eubha Akilade.

The jury said: “A first time writer/director giving us a story about a community that we rarely see represented on screen in Scotland. (But that’s changing! We’re changing it!) We felt that this film has a confidence to it that came through both in performance and storytelling and tackled the subject matter with the nuance it required. Contained in its storytelling but impactful in its message, it’s a vital Scottish story that makes us very excited to see what the writer/director does next. The jury would like to give a special mention to Blackwool by Eubha Akilade.”

🎉 Congratulations to the whole cast and crew of BLACKWOOL. A superb team that we have enjoyed supporting through our Sharp Shorts initiative. And congratulations to the Scottish Short Film Award winner Annabel Moodie (@belmoodie) with their film FRIENDS ON THE OUTSIDE.

As part of our involvement in the @glasgowshort Industry Programme, we're supporting the Programmers in Conversation event at Civic House on Friday 22nd March from 16.15 to 17.00.

🗣️ The panellists for the session are; Jason Anderson (a programmer at @TIFF and @aspenfilm Shortsfest), Celine Roustan (a programmer at @SXSW and @psfilmfest Shortsfest), and Jasper Hokken (a programmer at @idfafestival).

🎟️ GSFF Industry Pass Holders are welcome to attend this event. Spaces are limited so booking is recommended.
