Dania Bdeir is a multi-award-winning Lebanese-Canadian filmmaker whose most recent film Warsha was one of the most successful shorts on the global festival circuit of the last year. Warsha premiered at Sundance 2022, where it won the Jury Prize for International Short Fiction. It followed this with a run of 260+ festival selections, including SXSW, Palm Springs ShortFest and Rotterdam, 90+ awards (& counting!), and it was shortlisted for the Academy Awards. Before this, Dania’s NYU graduation film In White received the Spike Lee Production Fund and premiered at Clermont-Ferrand. She is now working on her feature debut, Pigeon Wars, which was selected for the 2023 Sundance Screenwriters Lab.
Dania will be joining us for a Masterclass in which she’ll discuss her work and career path to date, in collaboration with Short Circuit, and supported by British Council as part of GSFF23’s Lebanese Focus.
You can watch Warsha in the programme Trapped on Friday 24 March at 20.15 in CCA Cinema, and the programme Find Your Way on Thursday 23 March at 19.00 in CCA Theatre.
This is a free event.
